Deleting From Inside the App
This is the fastest route and needs nothing from us:
- Open Odyssey Journal and sign in.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to the Account section.
- Choose Delete Account and confirm.
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Your profile and every post you published disappear from public view at once.
Deleting After You Have Uninstalled
If the app is no longer on your device, you do not need to reinstall it. Send a message from the email address registered to your account to:
Write "Delete my account" in the subject line. We will confirm the request, verify that it came from the account holder, and complete the deletion within thirty (30) days. You will receive a confirmation when it is done.
What Is Erased
Everything tied to your identity is removed from the database and from object storage:
| Data | When it goes |
|---|---|
| Profile: name, username, bio, avatar | Immediately from public view, purged within 30 days |
| Travel posts, stories and photographs | Immediately from public view, purged within 30 days |
| Comments, reactions, bookmarks and collections | Immediately from public view, purged within 30 days |
| Messages you sent to other travelers | Purged within 30 days |
| Location waypoints and travel dates | Purged within 30 days |
| Authentication record and session tokens | Invalidated immediately, purged within 30 days |
Backups roll forward on their own schedule, so a copy may persist in an encrypted backup set for a short period after the thirty days; it is not readable by the app and is overwritten in the normal backup cycle.
What Is Kept, and Why
Two narrow categories survive deletion, and neither identifies you:
- Aggregate, non-identifying counts — for example the total number of entries written across the service. These carry no user identifier and cannot be traced back to you.
- Records we are required by law to retain — for example a record that a deletion request was made and honoured, kept only for as long as the applicable statute of limitations requires, as described in section 8 of the Privacy Policy.
Crash diagnostics sent to our error-monitoring processor are scrubbed of personal data before they leave your device, so there is nothing there to delete.
Deleting Less Than Everything
If you want to keep your account but remove specific material:
- A single entry: open it and choose delete. It is removed at once.
- A photograph inside an entry: edit the entry and remove the photograph.
- A copy of your data before you go: write to privacy@odysseyjournal.app and we will export it for you first.
